Paddling, pool, and savoir vivre at the Dordogne

  • Luxury campsites in a river and rock landscape.
  • Medieval castles above the river.
  • Discover hiking, vineyards, and truffle restaurants.

Welcome to the Middle Ages! Time seems to have stood still in many places of the Périgord. Countless castles, like the fortress of Domme high above the Dordogne, can be admired here. In the castle Castelnaud medieval war machines, weapons and armour are exhibited. After so much excitement, the camping pool is a great place to cool off or relax. Hardly any camping site on the Dordogne, that has no pools.

Many 5 star campsites in the Dordogne region also offer water slides and whirlpools

Who would rather refresh oneself in the spray of white water, can look forward to the rapids at Carennac, an Eldorado for kayakers. At the quieter spots of Dordogne, Lot, Corrèze, and Vézère, you will find beaches and quiet canoe trips. At many campsites along the Dordogne you can book canoe trips for the whole family. Would you like to go underground boating? Then get on the boat in the cave lake of Padirac! The birds of prey fly high up at the eagle rock of Rocamadour. This is also where the famous goat cheese comes from. You will also find a bird park, a monkey mountain, and several high ropes courses in the region.

World Heritage Site - the prehistoric cave paintings of Lascaux

About 15,000 years ago the aborigines created fascinating animal drawings here. Other excursion destinations in the region include the weekly gourmet markets, for example in half-timbered, cathedral or fortress towns such as Sarlat, Salignac or Autoire. Due to its moderate climate and the low population density, the Périgord is characterised by dense forests and many vineyards. Plant lovers can stroll through the enchanting gardens of Jardins du Manoir d'Eyrignac in Salignac-Eyvigues.
